Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Book One: You can learn how to say “Eat my pants” in Latin, how to deal with evil teachers, and how mythology is
important to everyday life.
Book Two: Learn about the Bermuda Triangle and how it’s really dangerous. Begin to understand the real purpose of cruise ships.
Book Three: Fight a manticore and learn the shocking truth about children of the “Big Three”
Book Four: Meet the creator of the Labrynth, how to defy the space-time continuum for travel purposes, and how to care for a herd of flesh-eating horses.
Book Five: Learn more about prophecies and how they can fool you. Read a battle scene that lasts for about half of a book and yet never fails to keep you riveted.

Each book introduces something new, interesting, and puts a unique and interesting twist on Greek/Roman mythology. If you’re familiar with mythology, it can be even more amusing because you’re in on some of the humor or more frightened by some of the moves the characters make. If you aren’t familiar then you not only learn more about mythology, but get to read some rather funny and inightful adventures that seem to fit right in with classical mythology.
All of the characters have a great amount of depth and courage.
This series reminds my of both the Everworld series by K.A. Applegate (now out of print) and the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. Percy particularly reminds me of a younger version of Harry Dresden, only he’s a demigod instead of a wizard. Even the peripheral characters have an unexpected amount of depth and background.
Still, don’t just take my word for it - take Gambit’s word as well. He’s done some great book-by-book reviews of the series lately!
